Burning Fat with Yoga
Before talking about how Yoga can help burning fat; we should understand the problem itself. Obesity is a condition in which extra energies get deposited in the body in the form of fat. This deposition of fat in different systems of the body hinders their normal functioning and also increases risk of many health problems; high blood pressure, diabetes, coronary heart diseases, gall bladder diseases, cancer and arthritis are few among these.
Obesity is generally measured by BMI; BMI = Weight (in Kgs) / height 2 (in meters).
- BMI between 19 – 25 indicates normal or optimum weight
- Between 25-30 indicates overweight
- Between 30-35 indicates obesity
- >35 indicate obesity to a level which is a threat for most of the systems of the body.
How obesity starts: generally obesity results when intake of the energy is more than its expenditure. There are different physical and psychological factors which lead to deposition of fat in body.
Genetics: there are certain facts which are supporting that Obesity is associated with genetics. If both the parents are obese then there are increased chances that their children will also be obese. But this observation is not 100% correct. Yoga is helpful in burning the deposited fats even if the obesity is associated with the genetics.
Psychological: the fellows who are too much sensitive in nature – intellectual fellows like writers, poets, thinkers; always have tendency to fat.
Environmental: Certain environmental conditions are also responsible for obesity. The fellows living in too much humid areas are always prone to deposition of fats in their body and later on obesity.
Lifestyle: Sedentary lifestyle, lack of exercise leads to stagnancy in body. Stagnancy always increases chances of fat deposition.
Eating habits: When a fellow is taking his meals at irregular time periods; his body develops a tendency to keep some thing in stock for survival when there will be no food. Some fellows habitually eat some what extra in routine. This extra eating will obviously make him obese.
Emotional problems like depression, anxiety, trauma, loneliness: each and every human being tries to eat something when ever he is feeling something abnormal psychologically. This results in intake of extra calories than he consumes. These extra calories get deposited in the body.
Thyroid: thyroid gland releases thyroxin hormone; this hormones is require for proper metabolism. When due to any reason thyroid is secreting inadequate quantity of thyroid hormone it results in slow metabolism. Because of the slow metabolism body starts accumulating fats.
How yoga can help in burning the fats: yoga does not work on the principle of the calories but it addresses the cause and the possibilities by which the body can be brought to a state of ideal functioning. According to yoga 90% of health problems are resultant of lack of understanding of the human body, and lack of awareness. It is for sure that to get rid of obesity permanently you have to change your lifestyle, eating habits and daily routine permanently.
Yogasanas for obesity: Surya Namaskar, Tadasana, Ardha Chakrasana, Veerasana, Bakasana, Janu sirsasana, Paschimottanasana, Vajrasana, Supta vajrasana, Konasana, Pawan muktasana, Naukasana and Bhujangasana are certain Yoga Poses which give proper stretch to the different parts of the body. Among these Asanas Surya Namaskar gives alternate forward and backward stretching to the whole body. As a result fats starts melting with in few days. Surya Namaskar is also useful in correcting the thyroid functioning. Tadasana stretches the whole body. Ardha chakrasana, Veerasana, Natrajasana, Bakasna and others stretch and activate the different parts of the body. Pawan Muktasana and Vajrasana activate the digestive system. Once the digestive system starts working properly all the health problems can be resolved easily.
Pranayamas for obesity: Bharamari and Nadi Shodhana Pranayamas are very useful in correcting obesity. Bhramari Pranayama makes a person psychologically cool and calm. Once a fellow is psychologically silent he will never suffer from stress, depression anxiety and other problems. Nadi Shodhana Pranayama activates the whole body and helps correcting the metabolism of the body.
Bandhas for obesity: Jalandhar Bandha, Moola Bandha and Udyaan Bandha should be practiced to get rid of extra fats. Besides correcting the working of whole body these bandhas specially the Jalandhar Bandha is very useful in thyroid problem.
Kriysa for obesity: Kapal bhatti Kriya is very useful in Obesity. It increases the metabolic rate of body tremendously and with in few days of practicing it you will find that it is just doing wonder for you.
