Sign and Symptoms of AIDS

What is Auto Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)?

In AIDS the body immunity is greatly hampered which is the defense system of the body. Once the defense system is weakened; it becomes very easy for any disease to attack on the body specially the infections.

The symptoms of HIV and AIDS vary, depending on the phase of infection.

Primary infection:

Many people do not develop symptoms after getting infected with HIV. Some people have a flu-like illness within several days to weeks after exposure to the virus. It may last for few weeks. Possible symptoms include:

  • Fever and Night sweats
  • Muscle tenderness and Joint pain
  • Rash
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • Mouth or genital ulcers
  • Swollen lymph glands, mainly on the neck
  • Diarrhea

During this period the infection is very mild so these symptoms might go unnoticed. There is a very high virus load in blood stream during this time period so infection spread very rapidly during this time period

Clinical latent infection:

During this time period there are no specific signs and symptoms. In some fellows, persistent swelling of lymph nodes might occur during this period. Clinical latent infection lasts for 8 to 10 years. Few people can stay in this stage even longer, but others progress to more-severe disease much sooner.

Symptomatic HIV infection:

If treatment is not given the HIV infection progresses to AIDS. AIDS is the most advanced stage of HIV infection. It includes all HIV-infected people who have fewer than 200 CD4+ cells per microliter of blood. It also includes 26 conditions that are common in advanced HIV disease but that rarely occur in healthy people.

Symptoms of HIV-AIDS

Most of the above conditions are infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, and other organisms. Nearly every organ system is affected. Some of the common symptoms include:

  • Lack of energy
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Shaking chills or fever higher than 100 F (38 C) for several weeks
  • Soaking night sweats
  • Cough and shortness of breath

People with AIDS are prone to develop various cancers such as Kaposi sarcoma, cervical cancer, and cancers of the immune system known as lymphomas. After the diagnosis of AIDS is made, the average survival time has been estimated to be 2-3 years

Ayurveda about HIV AIDS: Ayurveda has no direct description about any infectious disease, which can be understood under AIDS. Still the condition of the depeltion of the OJUS (the immune power of the body) can be direcvtly correlated with the condition of the AIDS. Because in lack of OJUS, body can be grieved from any of the diseases, what is exactly similar to the condition of AIDS. This condiotion of lack of ojus can be well treated with the medicines, where we today lack in the treatment of the AIDS, so a complete research work needs to be done to find better treatment of the AIDS in Ayurveda.
