Recommendation for Hepatitis

Diet leaves a direct impact on liver, because whatever we will eat will be processed for sure by liver. Without processing by liver foods cannot be used by the body. So it is important to regulate the diet. Here are the diet regulations for the Hepatitis.

Diet Management for Hepatitis:

  • Low-fat meals. The liver is an incredibly important organ to our body. It's involved with many aspects of nutrition. One important function of the liver is to produce bile, which the body uses to emulsify dietary fats, such as from potato chips or hamburgers. However, depending on the damage to liver, enough bile may not be produced by liver. As a result, fats will remain undigested. So you should minimize intake of fats in your food.
  • Small meals. Because liver is damaged, it isn't able to store as much energy as it once could. One of the jobs of the liver is to store glycogen, which it can quickly give back to the body when it needs immediate energy. So you should eat small, frequent meals making sure to include carbohydrates so that a constant supply of energy can ensured.
  • Unnecessary medicines. Most of the medicines are processed in Liver. It's important to avoid unnecessary medication.
  • Pesticides and herbicides. Though these can be absorbed through our skin, they are still toxins as these are processed by the liver.
  • Chew, chew, and chew. The digestive process starts in the mouth. The chewing action begins the release of digestive juices. So to aid the digestion process you should chew every bite properly.
  • Lemon juice mixed with water is good in the morning hours, 30 minutes before eating.
  • You can take dandelion greens, black radish, apples and saffron, watercress, beets, parsley, artichokes, cherries, grapefruit, parsnips, endive, garlic, onion, chicory, horseradish,  mustard greens, kumquats, limes, quinces, grapes, burdock root which are good for the liver
  • Excessive iron can damage the liver. Patients suffering from Hepatitis C have problems in excreting iron from the body. So you should avoid taking iron supplement
  • Protein intake should be more in case of Hepatitis C

Foods to Avoid:

  • Animal products –taking animal products in diet; just adds stress to the digestive process, stressing the liver, gall bladder, and pancreas. Meat is one of the hardest foods to digest. It can sit in the stomach for a long time and ferment, causing flu like symptoms, gas, bloating, and even more stress.
  • Caffeine: including colas, chocolate, coffee, some teas, OTC meds. Caffeine is a stimulant. Stimulating the liver can cause stress to the liver. If you are in the habit of drinking caffeinated beverages you should eliminate them slowly as they are addicting. If you stop too suddenly you can have withdrawal symptoms such as headaches, nausea, irritability, and weak shakes. .
  • Tap water - drink boiled water only. No filtered water. Your tap water may contain chlorine, fluoride, inorganic chemicals and compounds that the liver is not able to process. Filtered water is of course better than tap water but filters breed bacteria. In order to reduce the stress from the liver you need to give it the purest form of water possible which is boiled water.
  • Junk foods – you might love junk food but in reality Junk is junk, meaning worthless. Our body does not get a good nutrition from junk foods and most often they are full of all the things we need to stay away from, fats, sugars, empty calories, chemicals, additives, etc. Your poor liver can not handle this added stress
  • Refined wheat flour – Refined wheat flour has been chemically processed. Lots of vitamins and minerals are lost during the process, about 78%. When we consume this chemically altered product our bodies need extra vitamins and minerals in order to process it and utilize it. It is opposite of what we want. We want to eat foods that will nourish the body, not make it work harder.
  • Hydrogenated oils - Hydrogenated (these are refined) oils are another product that is hard for the liver to handle. A better choice would be sesame oil or mustard oil.
  • Dairy products (animal) - Dairy foods are extremely hard to digest and again you are stressing your liver which is already weak.
  • Fruit juices - Fruit juices are high in concentrated sugar. Sugar is a shock to the liver, stresses the digestive process, stresses the pancreas, and it feeds the virus.
  • Artificial sweeteners - These sweeteners are extremely hard for the liver to process. Your poor liver doesn't even recognize what this substance is.
  • Processed foods - we all know processed foods contain unnatural substances, preservatives, fillers, and chemically treated substances. Common sense tells us this is not healthy for us.
